What Can I Eat on the Meat and Fruit Diet
You can eat meat and fruit on the meat and fruit diet.
The answer is in bold.
If it is not meat or it is not fruit, then you can’t eat it on the strictest form of the meat and fruit diet. Simple enough, right? I thought so.
That said, this diet has some variations, like instead of strictly meat, dieters can eat animal-based foods (which includes but is not limited to meat) plus fruit. Milk and eggs are literally back on the table here.
You are probably like anyone else to whom I’ve said I’m on this diet, where you are instantly asking, “So, can I eat X, Y, or Z?” I can’t tell you how many bajillion times I’ve been asked that question.
Here’s the answer. Pay special attention to the next complex set of instructions:
1. Is the food meat? Then you can eat it.
2. Is the food fruit? Then you can eat it.
To your next set of questions, please refer to 1 and 2. Do you feel like I’m talking down to you? I’m not trying to be condescending; I have just played this conversation out enough to hear what you’re thinking.
Here are some examples of foods that you may eat on this diet. Notice they are all meats or fruits.
Chicken, blueberries, hamburger, watermelon, lamb, oranges, pork/bacon, tomatoes, etc…
So, meat and fruit. No potatoes, no vegetables, no peanut butter.
Especially, no seed or vegetable oils: canola, grape, olive, walnut, peanut, etc. You’re back to cooking with butter and tallow.
While you are on this diet, you might as well get the best meats and fruits you can buy (or grow). Your body will do even better with foods having the following labels:
Organic All
Grass-fed Livestock (Cow, Bison, Lamb)
Pasture-raised Chickens
Non-GMO All
I did say there are some variations, though, like the variation my wife and I typically stick to by replacing just meat with any animal-based food: meat, eggs, milk, cheese, and butter. Additionally, I keep fermented foods in my diet despite their not being meat or fruit, like sauerkraut (fermented cabbage), for gut health.
This diet is delicious! Enjoy it. Don’t worry about Calories in the beginning, as it will be very hard to eat too many Calories while eating about half fruit and half meat every day.
Check out the inspiration for this diet, Dr. Paul Saladino, the Carnivor M.D.
My wife went from 210 lbs to 155 lbs in under 2 months, and I lost fat but kept my muscle and strength all the while. Obviously, I can’t guarantee you’ll see the same results, but if I were a betting man, I would bet you would drop fat if you stick with this diet.
A buddy and I were on this diet during a period last year. I still follow a less restrictive variation of this diet today. My preferred meal after working out is meat (bison, beef, turkey today because I ran out of chicken), three to four eggs, avocado, and some cheese. I drizzle honey on top for added sweetener. Butter usage is a preference of mine anyways, bring on the healthy fats I always said. In addition, beef tallow is highly underrated as it enhances flavor palates. The feeling my body has after consuming wholesome food is amazing. Although, candidly, I do indulge in fast food options and consume oats and granola. I am not without flaw but it is occasionally. However, your suggested diet is solid and keeps me from feeling bloated. Unfortunately, many lack the discipline to stick with it. A high protein based diet gives very similar weight loss effects to Ozempic/Wegovy sans the potential side effects, but it’s easier to take a prescription. Thanks for sharing J.
